The right to access justice is a fundamental principle enshrined in the Constitution of India. However, marginalized and economically disadvantaged communities often face significant barriers in realizing this right due to financial constraints and lack of awareness. The Legal Aid Society (LAS) at Birla Global University addresses these disparities by providing legal services, enhancing legal literacy, and empowering underprivileged communities.Through participation in LAS initiatives, students acquire essential skills in legal research, client counseling, and advocacy, while gaining a deeper understanding of the legal framework and the challenges faced by marginalized populations.
VISION
Constitutional Mandate: Article 39A mandates the State to ensure justice based on equal opportunity and provide free legal assistance, ensuring no citizen is deprived of justice due to economic disadvantages.
Addressing Legal Inequities: The LAS targets underserved populations, particularly in rural areas, to raise awareness of legal rights and provide necessary resources.
Practical Training for Students: Involvement in legal aid activities offers law students practical experience and fosters social responsibility while deepening their understanding of community legal challenges.
Community Empowerment: By providing legal assistance and educational resources, the LAS empowers communities to understand and assert their legal rights.
MANDATE
Through these initiatives, the Legal Aid Society at Birla Global University aims to create a more just and equitable society, ensuring that every individual has access to legal support and the ability to uphold their rights.

Over the past three years, a series of impactful events have been conducted to promote legal awareness and education. Notable programs include the Legal Treasure Hunt focusing on fundamental rights, Legal Service Day at BGU, and visits to police stations and shelter homes. We organized field visits to Choudwar Jail and the High Court Museum, as well as awareness programs at Government School Gothapatna and on International Men’s Day. Engaging activities like a Street Play on consumer rights in Gothapatana Village and the Nukkad Natak titled “Sabse Bura Hai Kon” further enriched our outreach efforts, including celebrations for Labour Day.
