On 15th August 2024, Birla Global University held a vibrant celebration to mark the nation’s Independence Day, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a unified show of patriotism and respect for the country’s heritage. The event aimed to foster a sense of national pride and educate participants about the significance of the country’s independence.
The celebration commenced at 8:00 am, with the hoisting of the national flag by our Vice Chancellor. The flag-raising was accompanied by the national anthem, creating a stirring atmosphere of unity. The opening remarks were delivered by , our Vice Chancellor who emphasized the importance of independence and the responsibility of students to contribute to the nation’s future.
Birla Global University celebrated Janmashtami with great enthusiasm and cultural richness on 27th August 2024. Janmashtami, commemorating the birth of Lord Krishna, is a significant festival symbolizing devotion, joy, and cultural heritage. This year’s event was organized by the Cultural Committee, aiming to immerse students, faculty, and staff in the spirit of the festival and promote cultural understanding.
The event began with a traditional puja ceremony, invoking blessings for prosperity and unity. Faculty members and students participated in the rituals, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere. Devotional songs and bhajans were performed by the university choir, filling the space with melody and reverence.
A series of cultural performances, including classical dance, drama, and music, depicted scenes from Lord Krishna’s life, such as his childhood antics and his teachings from the Bhagavad Gita. Students showcased their talents in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and skits, bringing mythological stories to life and enthralling the audience.
The Cultural Conduit organized a vibrant 4-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival from the 6th to 9th of September 2024. The festivities began with the Aagman ceremony – a warm welcome for Lord Ganesha, featuring a cultural program and an aarti led by Prof. P.P. Mathur and Prof. B.K. Das. The gathering took place in the flag hoisting area on the evening of 6th September.
On the following day, 7th September, a ceremonial puja was held in the morning. Later in the evening, students took to an open stage to showcase their diverse talents in an energetic cultural event that celebrated creativity and expression.
The third day, 8th September, began with another puja, while the evening brought excitement with a Game Night organized by the hostellers. Students engaged in various games, fostering camaraderie and enjoyment.
The festivities concluded on 9th September morning, with the Murti Visarjan, a heartfelt farewell to Lord Ganesha, marking the end of a memorable and spiritually uplifting celebration at BGU.
On 25th September 2024, BGU celebrated Nuakhai, a traditional agrarian festival originating from Odisha. Nuakhai, meaning “eating of new rice,” marks the harvest season and is a time to honor the land and express gratitude for a bountiful yield. Organized by the Cultural Committee, this celebration aimed to promote cultural awareness and unity among the diverse student body.
The event started with a ceremonial ritual of lighting the lamp, followed by a heartfelt prayer for prosperity and harmony. Participants, including faculty and students, gathered to honor this agricultural tradition.
Odia folk dance forms, such as Sambalpuri and Ghumura, were performed by students, vividly capturing the festive spirit of Nuakhai. The dancers, dressed in traditional attire, showcased the rich cultural heritage of Odisha, with rhythmic beats and lively movements that energized the crowd. Folk music performances by a trained team of KIIS, accompanied by traditional instruments brought the joy of Nuakhai to life.
The Cultural Conduit of Birla Global University inaugurated its first intra-mural competition with a Singing Competition on 1st October 2024, celebrating World Music Day. Held in the Seminar Hall, the event featured solo and group performances, with students representing their houses—Spartans, Titans, Aryans, and Olympians.
The competition was judged by Mehul Agarwal from the Birla School of Communication and Nandita Bhattacharjee from the Birla School of Commerce. Student members Siddharth Suman Rai and Alipsa Pattanaik coordinated the same, under the supervision of Mrs. Lopamudra Nayak. Participants were evaluated on clarity, vocal technique, and overall erformance.
In the Group Singing category, Titans House secured 1st place, followed by Spartans in 2nd and Olympians in 3rd place. The Solo Competition saw Hrishikesh from Olympians winning 1st place, with Ankit Dash from Aryans in 2nd place, and Darshini Panda from Titans in 3rd. The event successfully highlighted the musical talents within BGU and celebrated the joy of music across the university community.
The University celebrated Navratri with great enthusiasm and unity, creating a vibrant atmosphere that honored the cultural heritage of the festival. Navratri, known for its colorful Garba and Dandiya dances, traditional music, and devotion, brought students, faculty, and staff together in an environment filled with joy and cultural appreciation.
The main highlight of the celebration was the Garba and Dandiya dance nights, which saw enthusiastic participation from students across all departments. Dressed in traditional attire, participants formed circles and danced to folk music, creating a festive and lively scene.
The celebration saw impressive participation from students, faculty, and staff, who came together to make the event memorable. Students from all schools collaborated to ensure the event ran smoothly, with students volunteering for various roles such as stage management, security, and event coordination.
The Cultural Conduit conducted the second intra-mural competition with a Face Painting Competition on 22nd October 2024. Held in the Design Block (C6), the event centered around the captivating theme of Mythological Stories, encouraging participants to bring to life legendary tales and characters through vibrant and imaginative face paintings.
Aashna Siddique from the Birla School of Law served as the judge, assessing the participants based on Creativity, Originality, Adherence to Theme, Skill and Technique, and Overall Visual Impact. Satya Bhutra and Aditya Arya Sahu from School of Commerce, ensured smooth coordination of the event.
Participants from each house—Spartans, Titans, Aryans, and Olympians—displayed exceptional talent, making the competition lively and visually appealing. The first prize was awarded to Amlan Behera and Disha Parmar from Spartans, whose artwork impressed with its creativity and technique. The second prize went to Punita Mahapatra and Gitika Bhoi from Titans, and the third place was secured by Mouktika and Adyasha Rajguru from Aryans.
The Face Painting Competition fostered teamwork, artistic expression, and cultural appreciation, enriching the campus atmosphere and providing students with an enjoyable platform to showcase their talents.
The Cultural Conduit of Birla Global University held its third intra-mural competition, a Dance Competition, on 11th November 2024 in the Seminar Hall. Students from the Spartans, Titans, Aryans, and Olympians houses participated in both Solo and Group categories, showcasing their talent and energy.
Judges Mitashree Tripathy from the Birla School of Law and Lopamudra Nayak from the Birla School of Commerce evaluated performances based on choreography, stage presence, and technique. The Points of Contact (POCs) were P. Shreyas and Ritik Panigrahi.
In the Group Dance category, Titans won 1st place, while Spartans took both 2nd and 3rd positions. In the Solo category, Jasveen Kaur from Aryans won 1st place, followed by Ritika Palai from Olympians in 2nd, and Birasa Das from Spartans in 3rd. The event highlighted the students’ artistic flair and team spirit.
