
The Birla School of Commerce, Birla Global University, solemnly inaugurated the academic journey of its newly admitted students through the Commencement Ceremony for the B.Com (2025–29) and M.Com (2025–27) programmes held on July 23, 2025. The ceremony marked the formal induction of the incoming batch into the university’s dynamic academic environment.
The occasion was graced by Mr. Jeh Agarwal, CFA, Vice President – Investment Banking, JP Morgan, London, as the Chief Guest, and CA Arun Kumar Sabat, FCA, Chartered Accountant and Managing Partner of A.K. Sabat & Co., as the Guest of Honour.
In his welcome address, Prof. Pradipta Kumar Sanyal, Dean, School of Commerce, underscored the institution’s commitment to integrating commerce education with emerging technologies. He highlighted the growing significance of Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, and data analytics in financial domains. He also shared the school’s future plans to introduce preparatory classes for various professional courses such as CA, ICWAI, CS, CFA and research pathways leading to a Ph.D. in Finance, all aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Mr. Omm Suvam Parida, a current student of the Birla School of Commerce at Birla Global University, offered an engaging and heartfelt reflection on his academic journey. He spoke passionately about the vibrant campus life, emphasizing the supportive peer community, access to co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities, and the University’s focus on holistic development.
The ceremony also featured a heartfelt address by distinguished alumnus Mr. Jatin Vyas, who reflected on his transformative journey at Birla Global University. He spoke about the critical life skills he gained leadership, time management, and collaboration and expressed deep gratitude to the faculty for their mentorship and support.
Prof. B.K. Das, Registrar, Birla Global University, spoke about the importance of holistic development, urging students to strike a balance between academics, health, and personal growth. He encouraged them to embrace interdisciplinary learning, remain curious, and actively participate in the university’s vibrant co-curricular ecosystem.
CA Arun Kumar Sabat, in his address as Guest of Honour, inspired the audience by sharing his personal and professional journey—from securing top ranks in Chartered Accountancy to his work with reputed firms like A.F. Ferguson and the Azim Premji Group. He advised students to uphold values such as truth (Satya), justice (Nyay), and righteousness (Dharma), and to trust the divine process. “Work with sincerity; the outcomes are taken care of by Lord Jagannath,” he said.
Delivering the commencement day address, Mr. Jeh Agarwal offered valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape of global commerce. Emphasizing the impact of AI, blockchain, and digital transformation in shaping financial markets, he urged students to focus on adaptability, relationship-building, and ethical leadership. “Commerce today demands more than just degrees; it needs principled leaders. Trust is your most valuable currency,” he noted, encouraging students to cultivate meaningful connections rather than merely expanding their networks.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Vice Chancellor, Birla Global University, reiterated the institution’s vision of cultivating not just graduates but responsible global citizens. He emphasized the need for effective communication, collaborative spirit, and preparedness for disruptions brought by AI-driven systems across global financial institutions.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Radhakrishna Mishra, Assistant Professor, who expressed sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, alumni, faculty members, parents, and the enthusiastic incoming students for making the event memorable and meaningful.
