Brief Profile

Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, Birla Global University has served as Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Dean, School of Life Sciences at Pondicherry University. He is invited Distinguished Visiting Professor in Bioinformatics at M.D. University, Rohtak, Haryana. He served as the Vice-Chancellor of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar for five years. He is Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), National Academy of Sciences, India and Indian Science Congress Association and served its General Secretary (Scientific Activities) for three years. He was Vice-President, Asian Association of Andrology and was on various committees of various Indian and foreign Societies like SSR,USA. And many scientific societies. He is Member of Institute / Governing Body of AIIMS, Gorakhpur.

Prof. Mathur served as a member of Court of the Central University of Karnataka and Pondicherry University. He served on Executive Council and Academic Council of Pondicherry University. He is UGC nominee on the Governing Body of St. Joseph College, Tiruchirappalli and is Founder Head, Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics, Pondicherry University. He received his education from Banaras Hindu University and has over 48 and 42 years of research and teaching experience, respectively. He has guided several Ph.D., M. Phil. and M.Sc. dissertations and published around 190 papers/ reviews in journals and books. He participated in more than 100 national and international conferences and has organised around fifty Conferences/ Seminars/ Workshops. According to Google Scholar he has 7705 citations, h index of 49 and i10-index of 115 and as per Scopus his h index is 39. He is on Editorial Boards of various national and international journals including Asian Journal of Andrology, Frontiers in Endocrinology and Indian Journal of Biochemistry & Biophysics. He is Reviewer for more than 150 journals. He is recipient of many prestigious awards like Asutosh Mookerjee Memorial Award, Young Scientists’ Award, Lifetime Achievement Awards, Rockefeller Foundation Special Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, Rockefeller Foundation Biotechnology Career Award, INSA-German Academy (DFG) Exchange Programme, Dr. P.N. Shah Memorial US Vitamin (India) Oration Award, ICMR International Fellowship Award, Subhash Mukherjee Memorial Infar India Oration Award, Dr. K.K. Iya Memorial Oration, Vidyasagar Award and Re:think India Visionary Eduleader of India Award.

Prof. Mathur was Visiting Professor/ Scientist at The Population Council, Rockefeller University, New York, Cleveland Clinic, USA, Westfalische-Wilhelms Universitat, Muenster, Germany and Hamad Medical Centre, Qatar and has travelled widely within India and abroad. He served as Chairman/ Member/ Member-coordinator of around 70 NAAC peer teams and was Chairman/ Member of many national/ International academic and scientific committees. He was member of Executive Committee of ISCA (2008-10) and Founder Convener of Pondicherry ISCA Chapter. He was President, Section of Animal, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, ISCA (2013-14). He served on National Task Force on Bioinformatics and Infrastructure Facilities of the DBT and Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India. He was on the National Task Force on Fertility Regulation & Expanding Contraceptive Choices of ICMR and Vice-Chairman of Scientific Committee of 3rd Asia-Pacific Forum on Andrology. He launched Study in India programme and developed a Bioinformatics Centre, which got recognized as a Centre for Excellence. He received funding support from various national and international agencies and was coordinator of BUILDER programme (DBT), FIST grants, UGC SAP and National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for Pondicherry.
