National Seminar on Women’s Development and Empowerment

Birla Global University organized a National Seminar on Women’s Development and Empowerment on 2nd November 2019 at its campus. The seminar was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest Dr. Asha Hans, former Professor & Head, Dept. of Political Science, Utkal University and Chief Speaker Dr. Sujata Mishra, Principal, SCS Autonomous College, Puri and Dr. Archana Choudhary, Faculty, Birla School of Management and Seminar Convener in the presence of Vice Chancellor Birla Global University, Prof. Sudhakar Panda, Registrar Prof. B. K. Das and Dean, Birla School of Management, Prof. Parameswar Nayak, Birla Global University. The Convenor welcomed everyone and introduced the theme of the seminar. Prof. Asha Hans spoke as to how women suffer due to environmental changes. She said how erosion of villages leads to income deficient families in village areas prompting male members to go for work outside cities leading to female led employees. Dr. Sujata Mishra emphasized on the support and encouragement of parents in the upbringing of girls. She also said that as behind every successful man there is a woman, similarly behind every successful woman there is a man. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Panda said that women have already proven that they are very efficient and reliable in every sphere of their lives. Dr. B. K. Das spoke on the importance of women taking leadership positions. Dr. P. Nayak highlighted the role of education and health to embrace the position of women development. The vote of thanks was given by Prof. Lopamudra Nayak, School of Commerce, Birla Global University. The 1st Panel discussion was on 'Women empowerment to Gender equality'. The Panel included Ms. Rashima Mishra, Co-founder, Milk Mantra Dairy Ltd., Ms. Reema Dhawan, Chartered Accountant, Ms. Swapna Menon, Faculty, RIMS and Ms. Hiranmayee, famous writer and social activist as the moderator. The second panel discussion was on “Inspire Change, Empower Women”! The panel comprised of a decorated officer Ms. Sagarika Nath, DCP Traffic, Police Commissionerate, Cuttack, donning khaki with pride and speaking her mind fearlessly, a Nari Shakti award winner, Ms. Sabarmatee, founder of Sambhav (NGO), a humble rooted woman dedicating her life for the farmers especially women who provide us food and are unrecognized, Ms. Tanaya Patnaik, Executive Director, Kanak News and Radio Choklate, Eastern Media Ltd., who has taken the legacy ahead by ensuring the issues faced by women are shown in proper light by media and Dr. Chidatmika Khatua, a social entrepreneur, General secretary, Child Welfare Association, who also works extensively for the indigenous women. Dr. Archana Choudhary, Faculty, Birla School of Management was the moderator who engaged the panellists in a sensitively intriguing discussion.
