About National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, which was started in 1969. NSS is a voluntary program for higher education students, focusing on their personality and character development through community service. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands-on experience to young students in delivering community services and transforming them into responsible citizens. Embracing the ethos of “NOT ME BUT YOU,” the program encourages a spirit of social responsibility.

NSS Cell at Birla Global University

The NSS cell at Birla Global University (BGU) offers the NSS program promoting self-reliance and holistic student development, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s focus on experiential learning. Guided by faculty, NSS volunteers engage in community outreach to understand socio-economic and environmental issues at both local and global levels.

The cell’s Its initiatives aim to address community needs and shape socially conscious, forward-thinking citizens through nation-building activities and skill development. The program reflects BGU’s core values—Honesty, Empathy, Transparency, Freedom, Respect, and Collaboration—while supporting various UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Volunteers acquire life skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Their interactions with diverse groups foster empathy, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity, contributing to personal growth and enhancing employability.
